Over the last few years the Scottish Government (previously the Scottish Executive) has been encouraging the public agencies (for example, local authorities, health, fire service and police) to work together and, this has included the involvement of the voluntary sector in this process. At a local area this has been mainly through the development of Community Planning Partnerships (CPPs) and Community Health Partnerships (CHPs).
In addition, it is often beneficial for a number of voluntary sector organisations, with or without public partners, to work together in partnerships, for example, the Midlothian Community Health Partnership Project (HELPP).
