What is CVS?

CVS Scotland

Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) is the generic name given to the local independent organisations supporting the voluntary sectors. They are themselves voluntary organisations and draw their membership from voluntary and community groups in their own area.

Their role is to support and facilitate the development and representation of the sector at a local level. Through this they strengthen the contribution local voluntary organisations make to the economic, social and cultural development of their community and provide a bridge between the voluntary sector and key public agencies at a local level.

The voluntary sector is very effective at developing and delivering at grassroots level to all members of the community including those most marginalised by discrimination, unemployment, poverty and poor health.

MVA is a CVS. There are more than 50 CVS throughout Scotland, in both urban and rural areas, and more are currently being developed, to cover the bulk of Scotland. Between them, they have a membership of over 4250 voluntary organisations across Scotland, and work with many more.
