About MVA

MVA is a Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), and is an independent voluntary organisation in Midlothian.

Established in 1974, Midlothian Voluntary Action is registered in Scotland as a company limited by guarantee (number SC219994), and as a charity (no. SC008286).

Mission Statement

Midlothian Voluntary Action (MVA) exists to support and develop community and Third Sector organisations in Midlothian and facilitate the effective representation of the sector in powerful partnership working.

Aims and Intended Outcomes

Aims

Midlothian Voluntary Action (MVA), as a Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) undertakes to:

  • Support the voluntary sector in Midlothian to grow and develop from a strong and robust foundation
  • Ensure that voluntary sector organisations in Midlothian have a voice, are heard and are active partners in changing communities for the better;
  • Respond to change, deliver quality services to meet local need and manage our services effectively;
  • Be a participative  member of the CVS Network

 

Intended Outcomes   

  • The capacity of community and voluntary organisations’ staff and Boards is increased
  • Community and Voluntary organisations are better able to meet their legal obligations and are fit for purpose
  • Community and Voluntary organisations are better able to demonstrate the impact of their activities
  • Community and Voluntary sector organisations have increased capacity to be sustainable
  • Community and voluntary organisations are more able to influence Community Planning and its associated structures
  • There are improved relationships between the community and voluntary sector and statutory agencies
  • Community and voluntary sector services are purchased or supported by the statutory sector
  • Greater partnership working between community and voluntary organisations
  • Midlothian Voluntary Action will be fit for purpose
  • Governance and leadership of Midlothian Voluntary Action is strengthened through confident and skilled staff and Board members
  • MVA has a better understanding of our local community and voluntary sector and its issues
  • MVA is recognised as a credible support and development agency for the sector

MVA also has a Woodburn Day Care Club located in Dalkeith Community Centre. It is currently opened 4 days per week: between 11am to 3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and caters for frail and house-bound elderly.
