About MVA

MVA is a Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), and is an independent voluntary organisation in Midlothian. We are now also part of the Midlothian Third Sector Interface.

Established in 1974, Midlothian Voluntary Action is registered in Scotland as a company limited by guarantee (number SC219994), and as a charity (no. SC008286).

Mission Statement

Midlothian Voluntary Action (MVA) exists to support and develop community and Third Sector organisations in Midlothian and facilitate the effective representation of the sector in powerful partnership working.
Objectives
Midlothian Voluntary Action (MVA), as a Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) undertakes to:

  • Support the voluntary sector in Midlothian to grow and develop from a strong and robust foundation
  • Support and promote the development of social enterprise in Midlothian;
  • Ensure that voluntary sector organisations in Midlothian have a voice, are heard and are active partners in changing communities for the better through the Community Planning Partnership;
  • Respond to change, deliver quality services to meet local need and manage our services effectively;
  • Be a participative and representative member of the Community Planning Partnership;
  • Be a participative member of Voluntary Action Scotland (the network for Third Sector Interfaces);

Activities

To achieve these objectives MVA will:

  • Provide information to voluntary bodies on issues which affect them and the communities they serve;
  • Provide practical support services for existing organisations;
  • Provide or assist in the provision of training opportunities for voluntary organisations and social enterprises, their management committee, staff and volunteers;
  • Provide advice and information on funding;
  • Provide direct services to voluntary organisations where appropriate.
  • Assist organisations to make well informed input to Community Planning Partnership and other strategy developments;
  • Assist the voluntary sector at local level to influence policy development;
  • Develop a basis for campaigning on issues of concern;
  • Help in the formation of new organisations with the aim of meeting unmet needs and providing representation;
  • provide an accessible meeting room and other facilities.

MVA also runs the Woodburn Day Care Club. It is currently opened 4 days per week: between 11am to 3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and caters for frail and house-bound elderly. Members are transported to and from the club using Lothian Community Transport Services. For further details please check out Woodburn Day Care Club's webpage.
