Child Protection

Child Protection is an issue of concern to all of us and, in particular, to organisations that work with children and their families/carers. The information in this section is intended to help ensure that (a) we can provide children with the services and protection they deserve and (b) ensure that your organisation complies with all requirements.

Child Protection Committee (CPC) and Procedures

The Midlothian & East Lothian Joint Child Protection Committee (CPC) is a multi-agency partnership of agencies and organisations within East & Midlothian who work together to deliver services to protect children from harm or abuse. Details on the voluntary sector representation are available on the Voluntary Sector Children sub-group page.

Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC)

Getting it right for every child is a Scottish Government programme that aims to improve outcomes for all children and young people.

The Midlothian Assessment and Planning Staged System (GIRFEC-MAPSS):

The Midlothian Assessment and Planning Staged System (GIRFEC-MAPSS) has been developed to take forward the Getting it right approach
across Midlothian. This is a staged system of support, providing a common, co-ordinated approach across all agencies to ensure the
delivery of appropriate, proportionate and timely help to all children/young people as they need it.

Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Legislation

In February 2011, the Scottish Government introduced a new membership scheme to “replace and improve upon the current disclosure arrangements for people who work with vulnerable groups”.
