The Equality Act 2010 became law on 1 October 2010. 

The Act replaces existing anti-discrimination laws with a single Act.  It covers the same groups that were protected by existing equality legislation – age; disability; gender reassignment; marriage and civil partnership; pregnancy and maternity;  race;  religion or belief; sex; and sexual orientation.

Types of discrimination covered now include:

  • Direct Discrimination
  • Associative Discrimination
  • Discrimination by Perception
  • Indirect Discrimination
  • Harassment
  • Harassment by a Third Party
  • Victimisation
