Hello and Happy New Year to everyone!

Hi

Do you have any workplace New Year’s Resolutions?

Are you a voluntary sector organisation or community group working in/based in Midlothian?

• Perhaps this is the year you get that new project of the ground – if you need funding come and talk to me about it!
• Or perhaps this is the year you finally embrace social media (or at least find out a bit more about it!). Talk to Kash, our Social Media Officer, on 663 9471 if you would like to discuss social media and your organisation, or look out for our forthcoming training sessions;
• Or perhaps this is the year you finally get the recognition that your organisation deserves…

I have produced a document that brings together a series of different awards, all celebrating third sector excellence – everything from Charity of the Year, Director of the Year, Scottish Care Awards, environmental awards, you name it – there’s an award for it. In a time of very competitive funding, raising your organisation profile and having your quality externally recognised can be very useful. So let’s make 2012 the year that Midlothian organisations get the recognition they deserve – apply or nominate!

Lesley

Emergency Planning: Getting Ready for Winter

Are you ready for Winter?

Have you thought about what may make Winter safe, warm and enjoyable for You?

Midlothian Voluntary Action (MVA) working in partnership with Midlothian Community Care Forum, Platform and Voice (the voice of Older People across Midlothian), and Forward Midlothian Disabled People (Forward Mid) has produced a total of three Winter newsletters to help residents and groups to think about preparing for winter.

The newsletters encourage local people and groups to think about what may help if we were to encounter a period of weather anything like last year. They include a list of useful telephone numbers, support and advice to keep warm and in touch with neighbours and friends and some tips on what things may be useful to have in the house as well a personal Winter Plan.

Copies of these newsletters were given out at Midlothian Council’s Winter Roadshows.  They are available from  our website  - www.mvacvs.org.uk; and by contacting MVA: , tel:  0131 663 9471.  They will also be available from local libraries from the beginning of December.

MVA will be trying to keep voluntary and community groups updated about any severe weather news through emails.  If your group wants to receive that information, please contact us.    We will also keep our Facebook site updated - http://www.facebook.com/MidlothianVoluntaryAction.

Committed to Excellence

We are delighted to tell you that MVA have been awarded Committed to Excellence (C2E) from Quality Scotland.
