Voluntary Sector Forum (VSF)

Voluntary Sector Children’s sub-group (VSCsg)

The VSCsg was set up as a sub-group of the VSF, principally in order to widen the representation from the voluntary sector into the Midlothian Child Protection Committee and related groups. The VSCsg now also feeds into the Integrated Children's Services Partnership Thematic Task Groups, including into the GIRFEC-MAPSS (Getting It Right For Every Child-Midlothian Assessment and Planning Staged System) process - further information on GIRFEC-MAPSS can be obtained from the Midlothian Council website.

The VSCsg offers a chance for local voluntary organisations to discuss issues of relevance to organisations working with children and adults. It is an informal meeting without a fixed agenda, however items discussed have included:

  • Representation on the Child Protection Committee and other Community Planning groups;
  • The Midlothian Children and Young People Mental Health and Wellbeing Task Group;
  • Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC);
  • and the impact the above have on voluntary organisations and groups.

A variety of organisations working with children and/or families are already members of the VSCsg. There is now representation on the CPC and a number of other groups, including:

  • Child Protection Committee
  • CPC Training Sub-Committee
  • CPC Practice Implementation Group (PIG)
  • CPC Quality Assurance Sub-Committee
  • CPC Screening group (shared representation)
  • GIRFEC Steering Group
  • Midlothian Children and Young People’s Mental Health Strategy Task Group (shared representation)

Further details are available from George Wilson or Margaret Nisbet, tel: 0131 663 9471. Information on meetings is also available on the MVA Events Calendar.
